Active life, happy family: I'm a wife, mom (to awesome teenagers!), and dog-mom to a fun-loving pup. My husband and I are both active – we love hitting the trails together for mountain biking and hiking. While I enjoy Orangetheory workouts, he prefers the challenge of rock climbing. Together, we make sure our adventures extend to family vacations, turning them into exciting explorations.
Breaking free from the "thin ideal": Growing up in the 80s and 90s, the pressure to be thin was relentless. Living near a beach community only amplified this message, where being active, thin, and tanned seemed like the key to happiness. As a young girl with Scottish ancestry, I couldn't relate to the tan part, but I channeled my energy into being active – all while struggling to achieve the "ideal" body, which was just not achievable. This pressure led me down a path of yo-yo dieting, starting at the young age of 12.
Finding a healthier path: After years of battling a love-hate relationship with food and my body image, I finally found the guidance I needed from a health coach. They helped me break free from the vicious diet cycle of focus on a more balanced lifestyle. Even during my athletic peak, completing marathons, half-marathons, and triathlons, a critical voice remained, pushing for more thinness and strength. Now, I celebrate my body's capabilities and prioritize healthy habits that make me feel good, not just a number on the scale.
